Tango del Norte

The Second Nordic Tango Festival

in Copenhagen from 1 to 5 August 2007

Locations: Vanløse Kulturhus, Det Nye Teater and Falconér Salen

Tango is a wonderful and beguiling dance as a lot of people have discovered. Not only in the Nordic countries, but all over the world more and more people are dancing the tango. The second Nordic Tango Festival presents a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the infinite univers of the tango. Some of the very best tango dancers from the Nordic countries will teach and inspire you, and fabulous orchestras and DJ’s will play while you dance. Most importantly, however, you will be able to share your passion for the most ingenious dance in the world with a lot of other happy tango dancers.

Wednesday, 1 August:
20:00 – 01:00: Welcome and tango salon at Vanløse Kulturhus with the orchestra Che Tango Trio (DK) and show by Luiza Paes and Pulpo Esbrez (ARG) (Admission: DKK 150)

Thursday, 2 August:
Kl. 11:00 – 18:30: Workshops at Vanløse Kulturhus.
Kl. 21:00 – 02:00: Tango-’nuevo’-salon at ”Sceneriet”, Det Ny Teater. Orchestras: Erling Kroners Drømmekvintet (DK) will strike up a tango, and Electrucotango (N) will give their very first performance in Denmark. (Admission: DKK 200)

Friday, 3 August:
Kl. 11:00 – 18:30: Workshops at Vanløse Kulturhus.
Kl. 20:00 – 24:00: Tango night at Vanløse Kulturhus: A unique opportunity to experience the fabulous Norwegian tango orchestra ”Tango for 3” (N). The orchestra consists of Sverre Indris Joner – Piano, Per Arne Glorvigen – Bandoneon (known among other things for his cooperation with Gidon Kremer), Odd Hannisdal – Violin, Steinar Haugerud - Double bass.
Chacarera performance by Helen and Martin.
Argentine specialties. (Admission DKK 150)

Afterwards you can continue dancing at ”La Milonga”, Tingluti, Valhalsgade 4, 2200 Kbh.N, which will be open until about 02.00 hours.

Saturday, 4 August:
Kl. 11:00 – 18:30: Workshops at Vanløse Kulturhus.
Kl. 20:00 – 04:00: Galla night at Falconer Salen, Falkoner Alle 9, Frederiksberg.
Kl. 20:00: Dinner: Argentine buffet.
Kl. 22:00: Tango salon with Orquesta Tipica Tangarte (S) + various entertainment + show featuring all instructors.
(Admission to the whole evening, incl. dinner: DKK 625).
(Admission for tango salon / show after 22.00 hours: DKK 250)

Sunday, 5 August:
Kl. 11:00 – 18:30: Workshops at Vanløse Kulturhus.
Kl. 20:00 – 24:00: Farewell salon at Vanløse Kulturhus. Paolo Russo Duo will give a concert and play one dance set! Performance by Linus Aabye and Ana Raquel Marques (DK/ARG). Tre Til Tango (DK) will close the festival. (Admission: DKK 150)



Prices:

Large festival package: DKK 1,925. Includes eight 90-minute workshops (12 hours in all). Admission to all concerts and tango salons, including the gala night with an Argentine buffet at Falconér Salen. Also pilates for tango dancers and both festival DVD’s at a bargain price.

Workshop package: DKK 1,425. Includes eight 90-minute workshops (12 hours in all), pilates for tango dancers and the workshop DVD at a bargain price.

Individual workshops: DKK 250 per person.

Milonga pass: DKK 600. Admission to all tango salons (including the salon on Saturday 4 August after 22.00 hours).

Hotel: Rooms are available at Hotel Radisson SAS Falconer at special festival rates: Single room DKK 800, double room DKK 900 (breakfast included).

Pilates for tango dancers
Every day from Thursday to Sunday at 10.00-10.45 Pernille Jane Dovey will teach a class of pilates for tango dancers atVanløse Kulturhus. Admission is free if you have bought the large festival package. Otherwise admission is DKK 75 per class.

The festival on DVD
Two festival DVD’s will be made: one with a summary of all workshops and another with orchestras and shows. If you have bought the large festival package, you can buy these DVD’s at the bargain price of DKK 200 each or DKK 300 for both DVD’s. If you have bought the workshop package, you can buy the workshop DVD at the bargain price of DKK 200. After the festival both DVD’s will cost DKK 250.

Workshop registration

How to register:
The tango festival offers more than 80 interesting and challenging workshops at four different levels of tango, milonga, tango waltz and chacarera. All participants who have bought the large festival package or the workshop package may participate in 8 workshops during the festival. You choose the workshops you want to register for, write down the numbers and send them by e-mail to gunner@tangodelnorte.dk or by mail to .... You can also register by phone if this is your only option.
If you register with a partner, please state both names and the workshops of your choice.

Note: You can register without a partner. There will be an even distribution of leaders and followers in each workshop.

Tango del Norte workshop levels

Begynder (beginner) You haven't previously danced the Argentine tango or have only just started and do not master the basic technique yet. Or you haven't danced the tango on a regular basis and lack experience in the basic figures.

Let øvet niveau (basic): You have been dancing regularly for about a year and master/use and improvise fairly freely with the basic figures ochos,, amague and simple giros to the right and to the left. You have started adapting your dance to the music and adopting a few ornaments.

Øvet niveau (experienced): You have been dancing and taking lessons for more than three years and are familiar with many different figures. You are an experieced dancer and improvise fairly effortlessly at a milonga. You know and listen to the music and your dance has a certain flow to it. You are finding your own style.

Avanceret (advanced): You are a very experienced dancer and have been dancing regularly for several years. You are at home with the music and feel confident even on a fully packed dance floor. You would like to gain a new understanding of complicated variations and receive inspiration for the further development of your personal style.

All workshops take place at Vanløse Kulturhus
Vanløse Kulturhus is situated next to Vanløse station (metropolitan S-train and metro). It only takes 10 minutes to get there by metro from Nørreport or 15 minutes by S-train from Copenhagen central station. There is a cafe where you can buy food and beverages, and a practica will be set up here so festival participants and guests will be able to practise and dance during the festival.
